A Melancholy Tribute

When stars die, they disappear,
but we take no notice of them,
They take none of us.
Yes, but when something dies,
it should have a place
in a catalogue of the dead.
All death is a shame.
My old dog howls at the moon.
Does he sense his time
will be arriving soon?
Can he know what it means to be dead?
No one can say what dogs know.
He’s sleeping near my roses,
but in some time soon,
he’ll be sleeping forever,
and the roses will
be growing over his head.
