Poetry
Orientation
rose-colored clay shifts to slush
to ice then back again. Repetition
never surprises me a poet said—
the pine; the pine
needle vertical in the river,
by sunlight it twirls a few times,
gets absorbed in my shadow
then appears again; bright, sinking.
we are all aiming to face
the same thing: the killdeer small
at the shoreline, the group of girls
in shorts and college sweatshirts.
my hands pressed to the front
of their pockets, their thin suns.
