(Re-)Visiting the Mediterranean short story competition 2026
As part of a project co-funded by the European Union, the Department of English at the University of Malta held a short story competition in 2026 for post-secondary students aged 16 to 18 on the theme Seeing the Sea.
Entries were judged on originality, relevance to the theme, use of language, style and overall impact by a panel drawn from the Erasmus-funded RE-MED project at the Department of English, ANTAE and the Department of English Student Association. One winning entry and two runners-up were chosen, the winner receiving a 150 euro voucher from Agenda bookshop and the runners-up 50 euro vouchers, presented in June at the department’s annual symposium on the Valletta campus.
First place went to Eva Di Battista of Ġ.F. Abela Junior College for ‘Seeing the Sea’, second to Jade Callus of Ġ.F. Abela Junior College for ‘What the Sea Holds’ and third to Raquel Micallef of Ġ.F. Abela Junior College for ‘Seeing the Sea’. The project and its organisers are described at revisitingthemediterranean.eu.
