Mute Witnesses

The evening stars
Are mute witnesses

To passers-by
On cobblestone road,
The lights in
The café terrace
And nearby tenements
And chic businesses
Prove brighter
Than their heavenly observers
In the indigo sky.
Yellow warmth
Bathed the customers
Sipping on tea, perhaps
Dining, bathed farther
Into the closeness of themselves.
Positive human interaction,
A seemingly dying art
Practised by walkers & sitters—

Dutch painter's
Idea of peace—

[ Inspired by the painting Café Terrace At Night by Vincent Van Gogh. ]
